SOLEDAD — Construction work on the new and updated Main Street Middle School is about 70 percent completed, according to Soledad school officials.
“It’s on schedule, with the plan to move in for the 2019-20 school year,” said Soledad Unified School District Superintendent Tim Vanoli. “We’re a year away from moving in.”
Among the newest additions to the construction is the new building, the classroom building that was not even built in November.
The new layout includes a science building, which is the closest to Market Street, an administration building in the front of Main Street, the classroom building that is on the right of the school when facing Main Street Middle School, and the Multi-Purpose room in the back of the school, which houses the gymnasium, choir and music room along with basketball courts and the cafeteria.
The classroom building is anticipated to have 20 classrooms and house approximately 400 students.
Currently Dilbeck and Sons, the general contractor for the Main Street Middle School site, is working on the street work making a drop-off area for students. The cement was scheduled to go in earlier this week.
“You can start to see now what it is going to look like,” Vanoli said.
According to Chief Business Officer Cesar Vega, nothing is pushing back the expected opening of the school to district staff in March to put in all the furniture, classroom supplies and textbooks. The furniture and technology is expected to take some time for bidding to occur and will conclude in June 2019.
“The solar panels have already been completed and is powering the old MSMS,” Vega said. “When the new MSMS is built, then just flip a switch and the energy will go over there.”
