Lady Aztec softball ends season

SOLEDAD — The Soledad High Lady Aztecs completed the season last week with a non-league contest with St. Francis of Watsonville at home and an away game to league foe Santa Catalina. The St. Francis Sharks defeated Soledad by a 10-4 score and Santa Catalina handed the Aztecs a 12-0 league-ending loss.

At home against St. Francis, Angela Mora homered for Soledad and went 2 x 3 at the plate. Sarah Gonzalez also went 2 x 3 with a double and Lailah Vega went 2 x 4 with a double of her own. Gonzalez took the loss at pitcher and was relieved by Alize Duarte.

In the final Mission Trail Athletic League for Soledad with host Santa Catalina the game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Freshman Allison Lorente started in the circle for Soledad. Evelina Ramirez and Alynna Quesada had the only hits for the Aztecs.

“We finished the year a little banged up due to injuries and lost some key players,” said Soledad head coach Joel Ramirez. “With only two seniors graduating the future looks good for Soledad as we continue to develop young talent. I would like to thank my assistants Samantha Barrera, Frank Parra, Carlos Rodriguez and Paul Rendon for their countless hours and time that they give to the high school program.”
