SOLEDAD — The City of Soledad is looking to the future, specifically to the City’s 100-year celebration that will occur in 2021.
On March 9, 1921, the City of Soledad was incorporated. City Manager Michael McHatten recently presented the City Council with the idea of creating five committees to head up the events for the centennial celebration. The committees would be in charge of various tasks, such as a kick-off event, fundraising, history, health, education and more.
“We would start the process of working with the community to develop the plan for events throughout that year and even leading up to that year,” said McHatten.
He said gathering commemorative materials should happen soon.
“I’ve been involved in centennial celebrations before and it’s not usually a singular event,” McHatten said. “It’s usually multiple events throughout the year. I look to 2021 as a year of celebration and lots of events that are associated with the centennial.”
McHatten said there have been members stepping forward to be part of the committees, but more are needed.
