YMCA sets fundraising goal for new year

SOUTH COUNTY — Even after 120 years in the Central Coast, the South County YMCA understands that this Y is “My Y.”

The 2018 Annual Campaign will focus on the Y’s essential place in the South County communities and its role in providing the financial assistance to youth, adults and families throughout the region. This year, the 2018 campaign goal is $42,000.

“In 2017, we provided more than $49,720 in financial assistance for kids, adults and families in the South County communities,” said Joe Gonzales, executive director at South County YMCA. “Without this campaign, our Financial Assistance program would disappear, closing the doors of this essential community center to the thousands of people who need assistance to belong and achieve a healthy spirit, mind and body.”

The Annual Campaign Kickoff will be held today, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Windmill Restaurant in Soledad. The community is invited to attend and learn more about the true mission of the YMCA and how the funds raised will be invested into South County, as the impact of the YMCA expands to King City and more communities to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The Central Coast YMCA is celebrating 120 years in 2018 and has an ambitious goal to raise more than $400,000 for financial assistance for youth, adults and families throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Financial assistance opens doors to Summer Camp, Diabetes Prevention Program, membership and more.
