SOLEDAD — Three teams representing the Soledad Warrior Youth Football Cheer squads competed at the Jamz Cheer and Dance National Competition in Las Vegas on Jan. 19-22. Soledad placed second in the Midget Division and second in the Jr. Peewee Division. The Peewee cheer squad competed but did not place in the top three.
“We had a total of 24 cheerleaders that attended,” said Soledad Warrior Cheer Coach Melissa Gonzalez. “They were broken up by their age groups to form the Jr. Peewee, Peewee, and Midgets.”
Jr. Peewees were judged in Division 11 Pom and the Soledad team was coached by Linda Garcia and Yvonne Rodriguez. Cheerleaders were: Jasmine Cardenas, Delylah Ocampo, Gabriella Hernandez, Alexis Rodriguez, Juliet Villegas, Justina Botello, and Brianna Chavez.
Peewees were judged in Division 11 Pom and were coached by Leah Amaya and Mariah Botello. Cheerleaders were: Sophia Gonzalez, Jolea Celaya, Kayla Vasquez, Savannah Acosta, Teresita Guerrero, and Daija Gutierrez.
The Midgets from Soledad judged in Division 15 and were coached by Melissa Gonzalez and Sandra Ramirez. Members the cheer team were: Leslie Valdez, Aliana Celaya, Alexis Lamere, Sierra Ramirez, Skye Ruiz, Andrea Martinez, Erika Aguirre, Destiny Villegas, Kayla Garibay, Genesis Ventura, and Julissa Perez.
“We would like to thank all our families, friends, and the community for supporting our fundraising events that helped us raise funds to make the trip happen,” said Gonzalez. “A special thanks to Cliff Vasquez and the California Gourmet Pizza staff for allowing us to use their banquet room to practice and prepare for Nationals.”
