SOLEDAD — The third annual “Nightmare on Walker Drive Fright Walk” is set for Friday and Saturday nights with a preview day tomorrow.
“Nightmare on Walker Drive” is a haunted tour through the Soledad Swimming Pool as well as a fundraiser. The pool is closed in October and will reopen in February.
“Throughout the whole month we have wonderful volunteers that come in and help set up and are part of the cast,” said Andy Sarabia, assistant director. “It’s really scary. Our goal has always been to make this haunted house more of a haunted house that teens can come in and really experience the fear and the scare of a legit haunted house.”
Over the years of working for the Soledad-Mission Recreation District, Sarabia noticed that teens wanted to go to a haunted house, but the closest ones are Hollister, Salinas or Santa Cruz.
“We wanted to make one closer to home for south Monterey County for people to come in and experience a real haunted house,” said Sarabia. “In the previous two years everybody that has come in has said it’s really scary.”
“Nightmare on Walker Drive” is not recommended for children ages 6 and under. It is open from 6 to 9 p.m.
The decorations for the haunted house are mostly provided by the community and the pre-sale money is used for anything needed for the haunted house.
The cast or volunteers for the haunted house have been part of the “Nightmare on Walker Drive” event for the past two years, with each year the group growing.
At the end of the “Fright Walk” there will be snacks. If visitors attend the preview Thursday night, they can write down their name, come another night with a friend and be able to go in for a reduced price.
Friday night is “Craft Night” with candy schools and other crafts that people can do on the pool patio.
The final night, Saturday, Oct. 28, will be movies in the park at the Rotary Park.
