SOLEDAD — Soledad High Aztecs celebrated its “Week of Welcome” this past week with different dress-up days and a rally every day at lunch time.
Students dressed in “crazy socks” for Crazy Sock Day, there was a college day where students wore shirts and sweatshirts from colleges and universities they would like to attend, and even a “Lazy Day.” All the events led up to Friday with a spirit rally at lunch time, during which the new teachers were introduced to the student body.
“Friday’s rally has been the best overall,” said Nayley Avina, class representative of 2021. “It was a really fun opportunity for all of us to come together as one and cheer on all of the cheerleaders and dance team.”
This year there are 11 new teachers at Soledad High School teaching subjects from ELP, speech therapy, math, digital arts, Spanish and more.
During the lunchtime rally on Friday, the Cheerleaders and dance team performed along with a tug-of-war competition between the football players and the Soledad High school staff.
The football players won that competition.
Juniors Geralyn Borzini, Jennifer Perez and Alexa Loera were excited to cheer under the football Friday night lights later on in the evening.
All three said their favorite days of “WOW” week were Lazy Day and College Apparel day.
“I’m excited for this year’s cheer team with the new girls,” said Loera.
Borzini said she enjoyed College Apparel Day and didn’t know which college or university she wanted to attend yet but saw that there are a lot of different options of schools available.
Following the rally on Aug. 25, the freshmen class of 2021 leadership members cleaned up after the rally. Kelsey Richardson, Secretary Lailah Sanchez-Vega, Class Representative Amber Solorao, Vice President Christian Hernandez and Class President Rafael Barrera helped with the rallies during “WOW” week and are looking forward to Homecoming later this year.
