SOLEDAD — The Soledad Unified School District has hired several new administrators for the upcoming year, from a new superintendent to an executive director of human resources to principals.
Beginning at Soledad High School, Mel Kuchta will be taking over the role of assistant principal. Kuchta has experience that includes 18 years as an instructional leader and is in her sixth year with the Soledad Unified School District. Prior to this role, Kuchta was the athletic director.
At Main Street Middle School, Felipe “Papas” Maturino will begin a new role as assistant principal. Maturino has 13 years of education experience and is in his second year with the Soledad district.
Frank Ledesma Elementary School has a new principal in Richard Radtke for the 2017-18 school year. Radtke is an instructional leader with nine years of teaching experience in kindergarten through fifth grade. Radtke has been a school administrator for the past 11 years, nine as a principal and two as director of human resources.
San Vicente Elementary School also has a new principal for the upcoming school year as Jaime Calderon joins the district, coming from Vista Verde Middle School in Greenfield. Calderon is also an instructional leader with 26 years of experience, eight years in administration and 18 years of teaching experience in the subject areas of elementary, Spanish, ESL teacher/coordinator and court and community schools.
Recently announced, Abbie Madsen will be the principal at Gabilan School. Madsen is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and is a kindergarten through sixth grade principal.
At the district offices, there are two new faces: Nathan Moreno, who is the special education coordinator, and Marilyn Cline, the new executive director of human resources. Cline is an instructional leader with 20 years of experience, including 15 years in administration and five years of teaching experience in English Language Arts.
