SOLEDAD — City council members in Soledad met virtually for a special session on April 17 to pass the continuance of an emergency ordinance first issued in 2018, which will now last an extended 10 months and 15 days into 2021.
The ordinance protects families from being displaced within the City of Soledad in the event a landowner intends to create employee housing out of a property.
Soledad City Manager Michael McHatten said the council could pass an entirely new ordinance, but for now they chose to extend the existing emergency ordinance.
The motion passed 4-0 with a vote from Mayor Fred Ledesma and Council Members Anna Velazquez, Carla Stewart and Marisela Lara. Mayor Pro Tem Alejandro Chavez was not able to attend the meeting.
