Coronavirus cases increase to 32 in Monterey County

Nine cases appear to have been acquired locally

MONTEREY COUNTY — There are now 32 residents who have tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Monterey County as of Friday, according to the latest report from Monterey County Health Department.

Nine of the confirmed cases appear to have been acquired locally through community transmission, while 10 are travel-related, six are from person-to-person transmission and seven are currently under investigation. One adult, who had an underlying health condition, has died from the respiratory disease in the county.

As of March 27, Monterey County Health Department’s Public Health Laboratory has completed COVID-19 testing for 452 people.

“It is critical that individuals and organizations continue to take actions to slow the spread of the virus by following all applicable guidance and recommendations from the Monterey County Health Department, including the County Health Officer Shelter in Place Order,” the department previously stated in a news release.
