City installs new stop signs at pedestrian-heavy intersections

SOLEDAD — A new stop sign has been installed at the intersection of West and Anderson, slowing down traffic for pedestrians to use the crosswalk to access Soledad High School or Rose Ferrero Elementary.

The stop sign came as a request from former Council Member Chris Bourke last year and is one of two stop signs the city has added. A second stop sign was placed at Orchard and Cambria streets on March 20.

The installation was completed by Chrisp Company and the signs were designed by Yamabe and Horn Engineering.

The sign locations were evaluated by a traffic engineer, who found that stop signs were needed at those intersections, according to Public Works Director Donald Wilcox.

Funding came from Traffic Impact Fees paid by the Orchard Villas Development.
