National Night Out promotes neighborhood camaraderie

SOLEDAD — Soledad Police Department organized and hosted the annual National Night Out last Tuesday, Aug. 6, that took place at the South County YMCA.

Soledad residents packed the gym and the parking lot to spend a few hours of fun with the Soledad Police Department, the fire department and other emergency medical staff.

There were more than 30 booths inside the gym with health information, free food from local businesses, various nonprofit groups, along with bounce houses for the youngsters. Pinnacles National Park Ranger Manuel Uribe played a guessing game of chance with the children and handed out materials regarding South County’s only national park.

Outside the gym, California Highway Patrol was exhibiting its helicopter while participants had a chance to climb into an ambulance, look inside and outside of police cruisers and a large fire truck.

National Night Out provides a venue where community members can get to know their local police officers, the fire department staff and other agencies that serve the City of Soledad.
