Grey beats Blue in CTF game

SOUTH COUNTY — A 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brett Baker to receiver Tony Amezcua in the third quarter held up as the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad Grey football team defeated the CTF Blue team 14-6 at Saturday’s Blue/Grey Game at Greenfield High School.

The CTF Sting football team split their squad in half to play the game that was a benefit for the Greenfield Athletic Program.

In the first half, CTF Grey took an 8-0 lead with a six-yard touchdown run by Danny Valenzuela and a two-point conversion run by Greg Campbell. The CTF Blue team answered back before the end of the first half, with quarterback Matt Magallon running the ball for a four-yard touchdown to close the gap to 8-6.

Virgil Binning of the Grey team was a defensive standout with two fumble recoveries and an interception that led to the score from Baker to Amezcua. The Sting football team will be playing another game before hanging up their football cleats to play CMC at Paso Robles in basketball.

After a number of basketball games, CTF Sting will trade in their basketball shoes for baseball shoes for contests against other Central Coast institutions.
